Fred 62 Restaurant Review:
“Eat now, dine later” is the motto at fun-loving chef Fred Eric’s avant-garde coffee shop, which played a role in the gentrification of Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz. Expect to see everyone from multi-pierced clubbers to Hollywood starlets stopping in for bowls of udon, Fred’s signature corn-flake-crusted french toast (“Bearded Mr. Frenchy”) or the legendary pancakes. The whimsical pun-filled menu offers lots of sandwiches, from po’ boys to tuna melts, and we must add that Fred makes a mean, juicy burger (hence its name, “Juicy Lucy”). Or consider chicken potpie or “Mac Daddy & Cheese” before finishing with a classic carrot cake or apple “Punk Tart.” You can score a pint of Guinness or select from a very brief wine list. Fred 62 may no longer be new and exciting, but we’re still glad it’s going strong, especially when we need a "Thai Cobb" salad in the wee hours of the morning.
