Hobbit Cafe Restaurant Review:
Not technically Middle Earth, but as close as you can get in Texas, the Hobbit Café is still packing them in after more than forty years. No longer strictly vegetarian, this little spot off Richmond Drive continues to serve the healthy-eating crowd with black bean nachos, big salads, soy burgers, veggie sandwiches and smoothies. But the lure of the beloved patio with towering shade trees brings all kinds of diners here, and the menu has expanded over the decades to include beef burgers, meaty enchiladas, fish tacos, and tuna or chicken salads. Weekend brunch offers peanut butter pancakes, egg dishes, breakfast-style potatoes and mimosas. There’s a limited wine selection and some good draft beers. Oh, and carrot cake is available, too, maybe the best in town.
