Itacho Restaurant Review:
The draw of this storefront izakaya on Beverly Boulevard is the food, plain and simple, and the seafood-intensive menu features many specialties flown in from Japan. Sashimi changes daily and may include eel, marinated salmon roe or toro. Other standouts include the baked mussels with homemade mayonnaise, garlic sprouts with minced pork, and seasonal, parched ginko nuts, while a whole tender eel is served with a vinaigrette, and black cod is marinated in citrus. The wine list is limited, but it’s complemented by a selection of premium sakés and Asian beers. Skip the uninspired desserts and finish with the clean flavors of the house green tea, served in beautiful, hand-thrown, blue-glazed mugs. The deep, narrow room’s austere look is cut with colorful, tie-dyed fabric wall hangings.
