Jasper White's Summer Shack Restaurant Review:
Jasper White’s enormous homage to New England seafood in Cambridge sets the kitschy stage for this Back Bay branch. Sure enough, with its rustic décor and rollicking raw bar, it’s only slightly less campy than the original. Like the Cambridge outpost, there are communal picnic tables along with tanks housing the live version of White’s signature (pan-roasted) dish: lobster. Seafood is the name of the game and includes some nice surprises, like fried buffalo shrimp, lobster wontons, Portuguese mussels and a crabmeat club sandwich. Other specialties include whole roasted local flounder with brown butter, a spiced-up fisherman's stew, and fiery-hot jerked fish. Wood-grilled specials are listed on the blackboard, which changes daily. We like the summertime clambakes complete with lobster, mussels, clams, corn, potatoes, egg and chourico. Fried chicken, franks and beans and marinated steak tips are also available. Finish off the meal with a soft-serve cone.
