Kabuki Japanese Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Kabuki’s décor combines the traditional (ornate fans and screens) with the contemporary (neon lighting over the sushi bar). Executive corporate chef Masa Kurihara, who oversees the dozen or so Kabuki locations, has developed a more sophisticated menu and instituted more elegant plating, and the quality clearly exceeds that of the typical neighborhood sushi bar, despite its corporate vibe. Standards like salmon, hamachi and albacore reflect reasonably high standards, and even pricier options such as uni and toro are respectable. Some of the rolls are worth looking into, and we have enjoyed the seared tuna sushi, a version of the now-ubiquitous spicy tuna on crispy rice cakes (topped with jalapeño and tobiko caviar), and refreshing cured salmon with kiwi and orange. Entrées include teriyaki, sukiyaki and miso-marinated black cod. Aesthetically presented Western-style sweets (e.g. cheesecake, chocolate pyramid with crème anglaise) are offered for dessert. In addition to cocktails and beer, you’ll also find a selection of saké. Happy hour boasts a minty cucumber Tokyo mojito.
