Kai Sushi Shabu Shabu Restaurant Review:

Santa Barbara does not lack for sushi and Japanese restaurants; however, this is the only shabu shabu spot in town. After a server gets a pot of broth boiling, a parade of platters arrives, laden with Kobe beef, vegetables, chicken, seafood and diced tofu that are then cooked in the broth. Minced ginger and garlic as well as grated daikon add flavor to the ponzu dipping sauce. Cubes of tofu drenched in peanut sauce are consistently good. Sushi, on the other hand, is average at best, whereas the donburi and noodle dishes fare better. The usual suspects of ice cream, mochi ice cream and tempura ice cream are available for dessert.
