Katy's Cafe Restaurant Review:
Imperial Beach has really cleaned up its image, and this cozy café serves as the local social hub and surfer hangout. Proprietress Katy Fallon, who hails from the Coronado Brewing Company, took over and put her spin on the place, decking it out with surf photography, comfortable couches, fun artwork and a mermaid theme. Many dishes honor local surfers and town characters, like the "Hammerhead Mike's deluxe bedhead," a toasted bagel stacked high with two eggs, cheddar and three sausage patties. For lunch, try the "I.B. Melted Hearts," tasty artichokes hidden in melted Provolone with tomato chunks on an open-face bagel. Breakfast also means smoothies and organic hemp granola with five kinds of fruit, yogurt and an antioxidant blast of acai. We also recommend the "Freaky La Kook" ice tea --- Fallon makes vats of it during summer from New Zealand Sunny Slopes and blood orange tea with honey --- served in oversize polka dot glasses. The affable owner loves to chat with visitors, but if she’s not there she’s probably out surfing the north side of the pier herself.
