Kingfish Restaurant Review:
Huey "The Kingfish" Long governed Louisiana during the Great Depression, and his fabled larger-than-life personality lingers. This French Quarter eatery named after him rekindles the legend. Kingfish, situated on a high-traffic corner, offers a strictly Louisiana menu that excels in its regional quality. Adding to the attraction is the deliberately old New Orleans décor, with black-and-white oversize photos lining the brick walls, hard tile floors, old-style wooden chairs and creative lighting. Even the TV at the bar plays black and white movies against a tin-walled backdrop. Standouts on chef Nathan Richard’s menu include a crispy cane sugar-cured duck breast, as well as a cochon de lait potpie. And although this is not a steakhouse, we recommend the smoked rib-eye. The smart craft cocktail program and a concise, well-thought-out wine list complement the Southern fare. For dessert, the pot de crème with a hint of salted caramel is delightful.
