La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels Restaurant Review:
This Gallic wine bar may sit in a sort of lower Manhattan no-man’s-land --- wedged between SoHo and NoLIta --- but that makes it all the more fun to either stumble upon it or feel like you’re one of the “insiders” in-the-know. The owners have a wine bar of the same name in Paris and also run the nearby Experimental Cocktail Bar. This Centre Street location is quiet and civilized and boasts over 600 different bottles of vino from all over the world but heavily leaning to France. There’s a long list of affordable wines by the glass, too. Created by Armand Arnal from La Chassagnette in Arles, France, and Tibor Kogler of Telepan, the food is mostly comprised of wine-friendly small plates: very good house-made duck pâté, ultra-crispy seared octopus, and fully-loaded tartines are menu highlights. The bowl of whipped cream, strawberries and red wine reduction is a light and sweet way to end the meal.
