La Palma Restaurant Review:
Architecture and nostalgia buffs will appreciate this charmer, located in the historic La Palma building, originally opened as a hotel in 1924. Designed by George Merrick, the father of Coral Gables Mediterranean architecture, this cozy restaurant could stand some renovation, but it's adorable as is. The tree-shaded dining patio is a fine place to enjoy La Palma's traditional Italian fare. Homemade pastas range from fettuccine Alfredo to pumpkin tortellini with butter and sage, our favorite. On the lighter side, La Palma serves fresh, simple fish creations, such as sea bass piccata. Also recommended is the veal paillard alla Milanese. The $10.95 lunch buffet is an all-you-can-eat Italian smorgasbord that's popular with the Gables business set.
