La Poubelle Bistro & Bar Restaurant Review:
La Poubelle --- which happens to mean trash can in French --- is a genuine French neighborhood café, and the food, like the somewhat shabby décor, is basic and comforting. Classic bistro favorites include onion soup, escargots Bourguignon, steak frites and coq au vin, most of which are reliable, if hardly inspired. Service can have its issues, but La Poubelle’s burger with frites is just the thing after a night of drinking, which happens to be a popular activity right here. There is a short, French wine list along with cocktails and several draft beers. La Poubelle is not the city’s finest bistro, but what began as a modest crêperie in 1969 has outlasted most of the others. Part of the establishment’s attraction is the neighborhood itself. This block of Franklin contains a delightfully quirky collection of cafés, boutiques and bookstores, and the restaurant’s late hours are appreciated by local night owls.
