Lamberts Restaurant Review:
This hip eatery next door to City Hall attracts throngs of downtown worker bees, politicos and the food cognoscenti looking for real Austin food. And they get it in a variety of sophisticated and down-home barbecue choices, house-made charcuterie, and other modern dishes made with local, sustainable ingredients. We like to start with the nostalgic spicy deviled eggs or the comforting roasted green chile queso. Make a lunch with the house-smoked jalapeño hot link, the homemade pimiento cheese, or a bountiful salad starring slow-smoked chicken. For a dinner entrée, we recommend the tender ribs---not your everyday ribs, but fennel- and coriander-rubbed pork ribs with maple-glazed apple and roasted fennel slaw. Other favorites are the cold-smoked Bandera quail stuffed with spicy rice and paired with a cheese enchilada, fried quail eggs and a mellowing ranchero sauce; and the wood-grilled natural beef porterhouse steak with red chile cheese enchiladas. At night, mosey upstairs to the bar, a destination in and of itself, for live music, local beers, wines and creative cocktails.
