Le Souk Harem Restaurant Review:
At a place like Le Souk, where attitude and shoes that scream “this season” offer the best chance of getting in the door, the food might be beside the point. This tri-level space, laid out like something you’d find tucked away in the backstreets of Marrakesh, teems with belly dancers and gypsy-reminiscent entertainers as guests snack on Moroccan dishes and smoke fruit-flavored tobacco from hookahs. The seats matched with low-lying tables make it hard to sink into place and get comfortable. But try your best because the menu is much better than you’d expect: lamb chops with potato dauphinoise, and cauliflower couscous; branzino seasoned in Moroccan spices and herbs and stuffed with basmati rice; and multiple types of tajines including eggplant caviar, red snapper filet, and slow-braised beef rib. The wine and cocktail list doesn’t hold too many surprises, but includes some affordable options.
