Livingston Restaurant + Bar Restaurant Review:
Livingston Mims served as mayor of Atlanta in the 19th century. Famous for his hospitality and love of food and wine, Mims lived in a house that stood on this corner in 1879. His last name graces the hotel's casual coffee and pastry bar, Café Mims. Although the hotel is a historic property, the dining room design is modern, yet imbued with a sense of grace and glamour. Locally sourced, sustainably grown vegetables star on the menu. Southern flavors appear in dishes like the Lowcountry Boil, a one-pot collection of crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. Deviating from the classic recipe, this version adds chicken. Blackened Carolina trout, fried chicken breast and Maine diver scallops with Logan Turnpike grits keep the regional theme going. For dessert, pecan pie comes with Fuji apples, sea salted caramel and vanilla ice cream. As for cocktails, the Manhattan is made with barrel-aged rye. The wine list offers numerous quite worthy selections; the AIA Vecchia Vermentino is just such a choice, especially for the aforementioned scallops.
