Lor-e-lei Restaurant Review:
If you live in Islamorada and can’t seem to find your buddies, chances are they’re already at the Lor-e-lei, the place to cool off after a day on the water or to meet after work. The bait-shack cabana bar is a local watering hole and live music venue. The waterside restaurant is a relaxed spot from which to watch, and be in the thick of, the action while feasting on fish shack fare and bar food. Dogs and barefoot children are free to wander and play on the constructed Lor-e-lei beach, while longhaired ’70s throwbacks roam the yacht-lined marina with plastic cups of beer. Nibble on spicy, hot peel-and-eat shrimp, plump conch fritters or a robust red conch chowder, washed down with any number of tropical cocktails (this is the place for them if ever there was one). The Bushwacker is a cool, potent blend of iced coffee, Kahlúa and three Caribbean rums. And you wonder why everyone around here moves at such a good-natured, leisurely pace.
