Lumberyard Restaurant Review:

Situated in the northwest corner of downtown Laguna Beach in the former home of the Cedar Creek Inn, this cozy restaurant is owned by the team that ran the Corona Del Mar venue Oysters. It feels quite in tune with the ruggedness of the nearby canyon, especially with a glass of wine in hand. The cuisine, whipped up by longtime Oysters executive chef Armando Ortega, fits the comfortable mood of the space, offering a solid selection of classic American dishes with enough flair to keep things interesting. Begin your meal with a generous serving of ahi poke or the trio of hummus dips. New England clam chowder is worth stopping in for if you find yourself in Laguna on a blustery day or a chilly evening. Entrées are as expected; items like the cedar-planked king salmon with soy-mustard glaze and the grilled flat-iron steak with chimichurri sauce are serviceable. For dessert, the Hog Heaven Pie made of chocolate ganache, peanut butter mousse and whipped cream tastes as decadent as it sounds. On a Sunday morning, you can start your day by hitting the build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and digging into plated brunch items like short rib enchiladas or the seafood omelet.
