Kitschy accents dot the unassuming interior of this Charlotte mainstay. Wooden bench-style seating reinforces the laid back attitude reflected in Lupie's home-style menu of daily specials and popular regular fare. Super-hot Texas chili is best savored chili mac-style, over spaghetti (to temper the heat). Cincinnati-style chili, blending sweet and hot spices, is a big hit, and so is the vegetarian option. Vegetable plates are laden with mac 'n' cheese, green beans, pinto beans and other seasonal favorites with cornbread. Nachos, wings and quiches are “munchies,” while the house spaghetti appears on the specials list Wednesdays and Fridays. A Mason jar of Southern-style sweet iced tea or a cold beer are the quaffs of choice. House wines are available by the glass. Comfort fare desserts range from brownies and banana pudding to chocolate éclair pie or peach kuchen.
