Mamita Restaurant Review:
Dwarfed by the dealerships on Glendale’s Brand Boulevard of Cars, this Peruvian place is easily missed, but well worth finding. The cozy dining room is decorated with Peruvian folk art and the kitchen delivers one of L.A.'s best renditions of Peru's most famous dish, papas a la huancaína, boiled potatoes blanketed with a creamy, garlic-spiked cheese sauce. Start with a mix-and-match ceviche, available with shrimp, squid and/or octopus. Other specialties include sopa de cielo, mar y tierra (soup with shrimp, chicken, beef, egg, vegetables and noodles), tallarin de pollo (chunks of dark meat chicken stir-fried with onions, tomatoes and spaghetti) and chupe de mariscos (seafood chowder). End sweet with alfajores --- shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche.
