Max’s Delicatessen Restaurant Review:
Golden yellow walls displaying sports-themed art lend a sunny feel to Max’s. Diners receive the Jewish deli version of an amuse-bouche: a basket with pickle spears and carrot and celery sticks with house-made ranch dressing. It’s worth a trip here for one of the burgers, like the black-and-blue with caramelized onion, blue cheese and smoked bacon. Reubens come with traditional corned beef or in Rachel (turkey) or Russian Reuben (pastrami) versions. A trio of tuna, chicken and egg salads is served on a bed of lettuce with tomato, cucumber, onion and a basket of bread. Crowd-pleasers include the latkes with applesauce and sour cream, potato knishes and anything with the tender sliced-to-order corned beef. There’s matzo ball soup and mish mash soup, too. Sweets include cheesecake, Max’s coffee cake and freshly baked cookies. Family-style meals featuring items such as fried or roasted chicken or brisket are available to take home.
