Medi Wine Bar Restaurant Review:
The happy hour crowd dominates in the early evening but neighborhood locals keep this Mediterranean restaurant and wine bar lively on weekdays and weekends. A tastefully appointed, modern interior opens to al fresco seating in the back garden. The contemporary Spanish Mediterranean fare consists of small plates designed to complement wine; a number of well-executed large plates are available too. Start with lamb albondigas in a tempranillo red wine sauce, creamy risotto croquettes with ham and cheese, and a chicken liver pâté with caramelized onions and balsamic vinegar. Entrées include a grilled whole Cornish hen seasoned with red chilies, garlic and rosemary, and a couscous casserole with squid, shrimps, mussels and clams that gives a Moroccan twist to the traditional Spanish preparation. The 9 & 53rd cocktail (St. Germain, grape-infused vodka, fresh grapes and sparkling rosé) provides a nice precursor to the meal, while a bottle of Casa De La Vega Rueda pairs with both the hen and the seafood quite well.
