Mijares Restaurant Review:
Mijares is a big, bustling hacienda-style restaurant that's been part of the Pasadena dining scene for the better part of a century. It's a family-owned business, and many of the recipes used today are those that Jesucita Mijares introduced when she founded the establishment back in 1920. Salsas are ground with volcanic stone tools and tortillas are made fresh. Specialties include tortilla soup, tamales, chile Colorado, chicken mole poblano, and a wide range of enchiladas and burritos. The carne asada tacos are a simple pleasure, the margaritas are very respectable and Mijares' Sunday brunch is one of the most popular in Pasadena. Also located at 1806 Washington St., Pasadena, 626-794-6674.
