Neptune Oyster Restaurant Review:

This tiny spot, all whiteness and mirrors and stainless steel, beckons brightly on winter evenings and promises refreshing cool --- complete with a window display of shucked oysters on ice --- on summer afternoons. What's more, it delivers, effortlessly it seems. Not only is the daily selection of raw shellfish impressive (there are a dozen or so varieties on offer at any given time), but the menu presents a notable assortment of creative seafood dishes, some Italian-inflected, others New England-based. From shrimp cocktail to crudo staples of sockeye salmon, hamachi ceviche and day boat scallops, the menu is synonymous with an eye-poppingly bold, lip-smackingly rich repertoire. Daily specials feature lobster spaghettini, shrimp and grits, and fish tacos, while staples include a North End cioppino. We think the Maine lobster roll smothered with creamy hot butter is the best in the city. The burger features Vermont cheddar, fried oysters, garlic mayo and relish. No desserts are served here, but that’s fine with us; we prefer lingering over a nice port.
