OneSpeed Restaurant Review:
The casual branch of chef Rick Mahan's ventures --- the other being the high-end Waterboy --- this friendly bistro quickly became a hot-spot for locals with its simple pizzas, fresh salads and creative small plates. With an open floor plan, bright colors and friendly service, it's a popular choice for area residents who know they can count on a seasonal meal at a reasonable price. The menu may include such starters as bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes and burrata, chicken liver crostini with onion jam or summer corn soup with pepper bacon. Mains include gnocchi with corn and tomatoes and grilled chicken with romano beans and chimichurri, but we like the handmade pizzas topped with local ingredients. Rick's pie boasts pancetta, potatoes and salsa verde, while the Parma prosciutto is finished with shiitake mushrooms and tomato cream. Desserts are equally as enticing, such as the roasted peaches with mascarpone, and espresso panna cotta with salted caramel.
