Original Market Diner Restaurant Review:
What’s so “original” about the Original Market Diner? Its roots date back to 1954 when the owners opened it as a classic drive-in. Today, it stands as a monument to home-style cooking with generations of diners sitting down to biscuits and gravy, baked mac ‘n’ cheese, meatloaf and the signature coconut cream pie. Breakfast is served all day, every day, by the friendly waitstaff. The pecan waffle is crisp on the outside, feathery on the inside, and utterly luscious with a sprinkling of Texas pecans and syrup. If it’s protein you’re after, there are fried eggs, eggs Benedict, a Mexican scrambler, ham and eggs, and every other sort of egg dish. Pick your pork, whether it's bacon, sausage or ham. The diner's operational mantra is “Pie fixes everything,” and while that may not be completely true, a heap of blueberry or cherry pie ala mode may make you care less about harsher realities for the time being. Stop in for lunch and you’ll see suited executives and blue collar workers alike enjoying a cheeseburger or Greek chicken. Good diner food is a powerful equalizer.
