Oro Restaurant Review:
Sporting salmon-colored banquettes, sophisticated lighting and dark wood details, Oro gleams with a restrained luster, to which the adjacent bar --- under-lit onyx and all --- serves as a suitable introduction. The kitchen has endured its ups and downs, but offerings such as the Bella ceviche with mango and Fresno chiles and an unexpectedly good (if a little overexposed) mac ‘n’ cheese with truffle oil offer hope of a renaissance --- if not a gold rush. A lump crab “Greek” salad with orange fennel vinaigrette is encouraging as well, and the flame-grilled Angus burger remains a dependable staple. As Oro is immediately adjacent to the Alamo, it’s appropriate that there be Alamo Beer marinated flat-iron steak. If it proves not to be memorable, loss-leader martinis at select times make up for much. Canine and feline companions will appreciate the special pets’ menu, which is always available.
