Owens' Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Stepping into Owens’ Restaurant is like walking into a museum. A décor that’s been added to over the years features numerous nautical artifacts and pays special tribute to the history of the U.S. Lifesaving Service. Owens’ is still owned and operated by its founding family and pride in the establishment shows in both the food and the service. House specialties fill the menu --- jumbo lump crab meat Remick, pecan-crusted sea scallops, seafood Norfolk, clam chowder and Owens’ gumbo. The Carolina coast produces a bounty of seafood and Owens’ utilizes everything, including tuna, shrimp, clams and local fish. Coastal comforts like crab cakes, seafood platters (broiled or fried), shrimp and grits, or Carolina cioppino are also available. For a mixed grill, try the filet Oscar, a petite filet mignon topped with crab, asparagus and sauce béarnaise; or a traditional surf ‘n’ turf of filet mignon and lobster tail. All meals are served with Owens’ famous cheese crock and crackers, a fresh garden salad and a basket of hushpuppies. Homemade desserts are a good ending. For a more intimate dining experience, head up to the lofty, wood-paneled lounge featuring a spacious bar and a handful of tables. An extensive array of international and domestic wines is available by the bottle and the variety extends to a by-the-glass list. Owens' also features microbrews from the local Weeping Radish Brewery.
