Paradox Palace Cafe Restaurant Review:
This 60s-style hipster diner offers plenty of generously sized salads, wraps and heartier plates, and the kitchen is not afraid to "veganize" almost any dish. Try the gluten-free mac ‘n’ cheese; a "Phake Philly" built with tempeh strips on a gluten-free bun if desired; or an Asian-fusion-style ginger peanut bowl combining raw spinach, tempeh, jalapeño peppers, cilantro, noodles, assorted vegetables and ginger peanut sauce. The house BLT is created with coconut "bacon"; the thick burger is made with grass-fed, locally-produced beef. Breakfast is served all day and includes a wide array of scrambles (egg, tofu, vegetable sausage) plus breakfast burritos and corn cakes with apples and toasted walnuts. Items such as poutine (Canadian-style fries, cheese sauce and gravy) and chile cheese fries prove that vegetarian isn't necessarily synonymous with “healthy.” Service isn’t as brisk as the coffee, so come ready to relax. In keeping with the healthful mood, no alcohol is served.
