The homemade touches and old-fashioned prices are the remarkable aspects of Pete & Shorty's Tavern, not the standard burgers and sandwiches. Those include the one-dollar Shorty Burger, the Loose-Meat Pete sandwich (tastes a whole lot better than it sounds), Loose-Meat Repeat (bigger), shepherd's pie and a side of homemade mashed potatoes. The bargains are everywhere here, as is the friendly staff. You can also get a side of green beans or a cup of french fries. This is a great place to stock up en route to the beach---a straight shot westward down Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard.
