Philip Marie Restaurant Review:
Philip Marie (named for owner-chef John Philip Greco III and his wife and hostess, Suzanne Marie) is one of New York’s best family-owned restaurants. The landmark building that houses this West Village nook was once a Civil War hospital and, later, a speakeasy. Now it’s a warm and busy spot featuring the cuisine of Greco, who was chef in respected Uptown restaurants before creating his own Downtown. We like his butternut squash soup, basil-garlic mashed potatoes, and his inside out burger stuffed with mozzarella. Philip Marie also boasts New York’s smallest private room: The wine cellar table seats two and has a special menu.
