If you like dense, saucy Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, you'll crave the pies at PizzaPapalis, a longtime Detroit institution. Dine in at this original location or order carry-out at two additional sites. Downtowners make pizza runs at lunchtime, and the six-inch subs appear at many an office party. You can’t go wrong with the cheesy spinach pizza, the pepperoni or meat lover's varieties. Pastas, sandwiches and salads are afterthoughts but still good. And don't forget the desserts: Deep Dish Chocolate Chip Cookie; add vanilla ice cream and get the Deep Dish Cookie Sundae. Or try a Papapillas, bite-size dough balls fried to a golden-brown crisp and tossed in brown sugar and topped with caramel.
