Red's Chinese Restaurant Review:
Red's Chinese proves that indeed there is something new and distinctive that can be done with Asian food. Situated in a long, narrow space behind a nondescript storefront, Red's Chinese is the creation of two New Yorkers who relocated to New Orleans. While most Chinese restaurants have rather predictable offerings, here you'll find such unique items as Kung Pao Pastrami, Hawaiian fried rice with fried chicken and pickled pineapple, and ginger scallion noodles with black vinegar and cilantro. While the menu selections are unusual, they rely on interesting combinations of ingredients. The pièce de résistance may be "Thrice Cooked Potatoes" with bone marrow butter, horseradish cream and bacon. Be sure to try the Chinese donut for dessert. There is a full bar, but wines are limited. P.S.: Ask for a to-go box --- you're going to need it. Portions are huge. While the place is a bit short on décor, its fare is long on flavor, and that's what you're there for, right?
