Rice Thai Tapas Restaurant Review:
Taking over the space that was for years occupied by Derek’s Bistro, a fine dining venue, is the casual, approachable Rice Thai Tapas; its owners also operate Oba, a Japanese izakaya in the same small center. Mounted on pink and chocolate walls are black-and-white photographs of Bangkok street food vendors, and the environment is stripped down with polished concrete floors and dark-stained tables paired with mid-century modern chairs. The extensive menu includes little panko-battered shrimp donuts served with mango aïoli; deep-fried, wonton-wrapped quail eggs; lobster and cream cheese egg rolls; and more familiar items like fried angel wings, pad thai and curries. Too many of the tapas are deep-fried, but alternatives like ahi carpaccio with chili-lime sauce are available for balance. Desserts include sticky rice with mango and green tea crème brûlée. A limited wine list is offered, too.
