River Oaks Restaurant Review:
Combining his French heritage and classic training with soulful Southern ingredients, chef José Gutierrez (formerly of Encore Restaurant & Bar) creates nouvelle Southern cuisine. Elegantly plated dishes of filet mignon with bacon-smashed potatoes or Chef Jose’s ground-to-order sirloin burger are served in the lavish dining room. Memphis-born New York designer Nancy Mah is the creative influence behind the interior, rich with custom mahogany and stained-glass furnishings, lively artwork and beautiful lighting. The wine list has more than 300 bottles and 75 wines by the glass. Homemade sorbets and ice creams are offered daily --- try the warm “mojo” chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream. The restaurant is Project Green Fork-certified, which means it has made a commitment to using eco-friendly products. River Oaks’ looks, food, good service and attention to detail makes it a favorite close-the-deal spot for executives and a destination for East Memphis residents.
