Rochester Chop House & Kabin Kruser’s Oyster Bar Restaurant Review:
This upscale steakhouse serves lunch and dinner at both the Chop House and Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar located upstairs. Steaks dominate the menu, the heftiest option being the 22-ounce charbroiled bone-in rib-eye served with a zippy sauce. Fish, seafood, lamb, chicken and pastas such as shrimp fettuccine verde made with Montrachet cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and a light egg cream also are offered. Caricatures of Rochester's more renowned citizens line the dining room walls. Cigar smokers are welcome upstairs where the restaurant keeps its stock in a small humidor. The well-trained, energetic staff goes that extra mile to ensure a memorable dining experience. Looking for a lighter meal? Sit at the raw bar and sample chowders; fresh oysters; mussels Diablo with garlic butter, diced tomatoes, peppers, wine and herbs; or grilled mahi mahi tacos with Caribbean spices, fresh lime juice, guacamole, salsa, lettuce and sour cream on a flour tortilla. A pianist livens things up Wednesday through Saturday.
