Rose Tree Cottage Restaurant Review:
There is no more authentic slice of Great Britain in Southern California than this charming tea house run by the distinguished Edmund Fry and his wife, Mary. After 30 years at another Pasadena location, they moved into this larger home in which to showcase the joys of a traditional English tea complemented by a warm hospitality rarely encountered on either side of the pond. You'll be treated like royalty --- Edmund has indeed served royalty --- at small tables topped with fine linen and Royal Doulton bone china. Delicate finger sandwiches, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and a basket of scones with Devonshire cream and homemade jam are followed by sweets that include the Frys’ own sticky toffee pudding and shortbread. It all contributes to a delightful, memorable experience. You must make reservations a week in advance for tea at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The adjoining shop carries England's top gourmet food and tea lines, such as Fortnum & Mason, Taylor's, Yorkshire Gold and Jackson's of Piccadilly, as well as an extensive selection of Barbour clothing, one of the Queen’s favorite brands.
