Rundown Cafe & Tsunami Bar Restaurant Review:
Owner Michael Monteil believes in serving the freshest ingredients at his island-inspired restaurant. Start with a bowl of traditional Jamaican Rundown soup or the conch fritters. Local favorites include coconut shrimp, grilled game fish tacos, a vegetarian thali plate or the Rundown noodles, a house version of pad thai. Massive “Tsunami” salads and chilled sesame noodles can be topped with everything from grilled shrimp to chicken skewers to fried eggplant. For sandwich fare, the selection runs from the Big Wave Dave (grilled chicken with pineapple and Swiss) to a fried Humboldt calamari steak sandwich plus several specialty burgers. Kids like the fish-bite basket or a PB & J served with a big basket of Rundown's renowned "Boff" (basket of seasoned french fries). Upstairs, the Tsunami Bar & Deck offers an ocean view, a good selection of draft and bottled beers, and service from the full menu. Outside is the Hula bar where lunch is served until 4 p.m. and in the evening a special menu mixes with live entertainment and ocean breezes. Off-season Monday Fried Chicken nights are so popular the kitchen sometimes runs out. Everything at Rundown is relaxed, including this sign on the door: "Hours are subject to change according to the season or the surf."
