Ruth's Chris Steak House Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Ruth's Chris is reliable for quality steakhouse fare that never feels mass-produced. This Pasadena outpost, with its high-backed booths, crisp white linens and contemporary lighting, represents the chain’s transition from its clubby steakhouse origins to a more modern aesthetic. Service is professional, and a comfortable lounge is segregated from the main dining room.
Food & Drinks: One can begin a meal with the signature New Orleans-style barbecued shrimp or lightly battered fried lobster tossed in a spicy cream sauce. Although the menu offers items like rack of lamb, veal chop and fresh fish, we suggest sticking with the signature hand-cut USDA Prime filet mignon, rib-eye, New York strip or porterhouse steaks, served sizzling in butter. Traditional side dishes don’t disappoint, and we particularly enjoy the corn pudding, asparagus spears with a deft hollandaise sauce, and a pecan-crusted sweet potato casserole. For dessert, consider house favorites like bread pudding with whisky sauce or deep-dish apple crumb tart. The wine list features Cab blends from Napa Valley, Super Tuscans from Italy, and prestigious Bordeaux from France to wash down a beef-laden feast.
