Sage Vegetarian Cafe Restaurant Review:
Chef/owner Homa Jahannia and her son, Ramin, have created a warm, friendly ambience in this tiny storefront dining room with a few sidewalk tables. For an opener, sample the signature dish osh, a spiced soup made with lentils, chickpeas and spinach, try a generous salad dressed with house-made creamy dill dressing or share the hummus of the day served with house-made pita. The ample eggplant “paradise” and signature tempeh pomegranate stew, based on variations on dishes from the owners’ native Iran, are standouts. The menu includes a nod to Italy with pasta primavera and a filling vegetarian lasagna. Don’t miss the chocolate walnut cake with ice cream or house-made cannoli, another Italian touch. A limited wine list and a few beers are offered, with a sparkling pomegranate wine being uniquely suited to this cuisine. You may bring your own by paying a $25 corkage fee that covers two bottles. Teas, shakes and soft drinks are the choices otherwise.
