San Diegans have long enjoyed Sammy’s pizzas and eclectic tapas. For a global culinary trot, start with the mini duck tacos or Mediterranean kafta skewers --- Kobe-style beef with tahini sauce. We like the gourmet thin-crusted pizzas like the Manouri; its mild sheep’s milk cheese from Macedonia, redolent orange blossom and oregano is a sweet union. Other artisan pies include Brie and truffle oil or raclette and fingerling potatoes. California-style pizzas call for barbecued chicken and Thai shrimp. Tapas mean the Lebanese-inspired kefir cheese with herbed pita and fresh tomatoes or Parmesan-crusted artichokes. You can't visit Sammy's without trying the sundae, a gargantuan assemblage of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, caramel and nuts that spill over the edges.
