Sapporo Restaurant Review:
Noisy, cavernous and still fashionable after more than a decade --- that's Sapporo, the popular pan-Asian restaurant that originally besotted Scottsdale's party crowd and now plays more to stylish boomers (yes, there’s a reason one of the signature sushi dishes is called the Cougar Roll). Happy hour is always busy, with guests sipping martinis at the elliptical bar amid a dramatic backdrop of giant jellyfish aquariums and gleaming black columns of cascading water. The food is reliably good, in sushi, teppanyaki and a provocative list of Asian specialties both traditional and trendy. The regular menu offers everything from delicately fried tempura to grilled black cod glazed with miso, pad thai tacos, and spicy Hawaiian poke. Although the two-page sushi menu seems geared toward the novice, there are plenty of tasty selections for aficionados as well.
