Saul's Restaurant & Delicatessen Restaurant Review:

New York-style sandwiches are stacked high with quality, sustainably-raised meats including pastrami, corned beef, roast beef and beef tongue. Knishes, blintzes and matzoh ball soup are enjoyable, and the house-cured half-sour pickles are irresistible. Cabbage rolls come in two versions: vegetarian (available sporadically) and with meat (a menu mainstay). Co-owner Peter Levitt cooked at Oliveto for four years and at Chez Panisse --- just down the street from Saul's --- for two. This is one of only a handful of places in the Bay Area that will satisfy those craving the Jewish deli experience. That being said, traditionalists might want to dodge the overly sweet raisinless kugel, which is made not with the classic broad egg noodles but rather with long slender pasta evoking linguine.
