Shoku Restaurant Review:
Yes, everyone is doing Pan-Asian and sushi these days---but Shoku does it better than most, cooking up truly original specials in addition to the Japanese-Thai-Chinese selections you would expect to find elsewhere. The décor makes striking use of this small space: metal, brick, ceramics and woods in light, earthy tones give way to a brassy dining room with a well-lit sushi bar. Carefully consider the specials before you crack open the menu---and if the spit-roasted Eastern roast duck with jasmine rice and vegetables is offered, zero in. An offbeat menu hit is the soy-marinated Shoku pork stir-fried with chilies and garlic and served with steamed green beans, Korean-style kimchi, leaf lettuce, boiled sticky rice and fried potatoes. This dish, or the seafood soup teeming with real crab, is sure to please.
