Lucky types find themselves seated by The Spot’s open windows (passersby have been known to stop to chat), which look out on a busy and rather glamorous scene that is quite at odds with the come-as-you-are atmosphere inside. Get interactive and build your own burger with choices of garden, black bean, beef, turkey or chicken patties. Pile them high with the usual fixin’s and other unexpected ones like black olives, jalapeños, rémoulade sauce, Thai peanut sauce or cucumber wasabi. The Cajun lamb chops are a savory starter, or order up a po' boy for more New Orleans-style fare. The bounty in the bacon avocado Caesar salad is plenty for two. Those seeking something lighter may gravitate to the grilled mahi mahi fish tacos. Thick-crusted, sauce-less, tomato chunk pizzas pays homage to the restaurant’s Illinois roots, so if you like them Chicago-style, they’re spot-on. Milk shakes and banana splits entertain the kids for dessert. Late-night noshers will appreciate the after-midnight closing time.
