Sweetie Pie's Restaurant Review:
Fans of soul food will go to great lengths for perfect fried chicken, catfish, greens and pound cake. In Sweetie Pie’s early days, it was a typical neighborhood joint with one, then two locations. It helped that its owner, Robbie Montgomery, was a former backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner; still, the true draw was her cooking. At this, the third location, locals still flock for the food, but they’re joined by food tourists from across the nation who’ve seen the eponymous TV reality show. The cafeteria-style service moves briskly down a well-staffed line of classics: pork chops, meatloaf, chicken wings and local favorite pork steak. Ordering is by the meal or à la carte. Portions are huge, so an entrée plus two sides --- mac ‘n’ cheese and cornbread stuffing are our personal favorites --- will barely allow room for a dish of the must-try peach cobbler. Servers bring beverages, typically soda or tea, but there is a limited selection of beer, wine and cocktails from an enclosed bar.
