Taco Bamba Taqueria Restaurant Review:
Chef Victor Albisu of DC’s Del Campo hits another home run with this compact taco eatery. Located near his mother’s Latin market, this place offers a range of tacos you probably won’t find outside of Mexico (well, you might spot them in Texas). Imagine a cactus taco or a tongue taco to get a sense of Albisu’s edginess. But don’t despair. If you are looking for standard fillings, sample the carne asada, carnitas and chorizo tacos. Sopes, or appetizers made from a masa base with various toppings, include shrimp and pineapple, shredded beef, stewed chicken and tripe. Assorted “not tacos” run from immense sandwiches (tortas) to corn on the cob. The only dessert, and you may wish for three of them, is a tiny cup of rice pudding with dulce de leche.
