The Haven Restaurant Review:
The Haven is puro San Antonio: colorful, crazy-loud and boisterous. And with oil-slicked queso flameado and the raisiny capirotada (bread pudding, the only dessert) among the enticements, it’s easy to linger. We find the Thursday soup with meatballs and the tacos de tripita or lengua equally compelling at lunch, though carne de puerco with chile colorado also exerts its earthy attraction. But we’re forced to admit that breakfast is our favorite meal here --- there’s something about the light, the acceptably indifferent coffee, and the machacado (dried beef) con huevo tacos that are the essence of the genre if enough hot sauce is applied. Tacos of morcilla (blood sausage) or nopalitos (cactus paddle) are other pluses. More cautious diners might prefer stalwart chilaquiles or migas with or without chorizo, three versions of eggs sautéed with tortilla strips.
