Tin Roof Bistro Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Though the evolution of the Manhattan Beach restaurant scene has exploded, the Simms brothers, owners of The Kettle, Simmzy’s and MB Post, have been two major components of its heritage. With Tin Roof Bistro, the brothers have built a comfortable, warmly lit dining room meant to evoke the architecture and style of Santa Barbara and the surrounding wine regions.
Food & Drinks: There are the staple oysters on the half shell and charcuterie boards, but the more progressive dishes, like the spinach and curried cream dip or watermelon and grilled calamari salad with ginger, are worth exploring. Among entrées, we recommend the roasted half chicken with mascarpone polenta, as well as the wood-fired pizzas, especially the "fig and pig" topped with bacon, figs, mozzarella and blue cheeses, and balsamic syrup. Unfortunately, the homemade pappardelle in the lamb bolognese was overcooked, affecting the good flavor of the minced meat. Desserts are limited, but include a warm blueberry ginger pie and lemon soufflé cake. The wine list is dominated by California selections with a skew towards full bodied Cabernet Sauvignons and Zinfandels.
