Don’t let the look of the building keep you from opening the door. The Tropicale offers not only good food, but also has an outdoor bar and patio and a diverse clientele. Taking a cue from Mother Nature, chef Tony Di Lembo updates the menu seasonally. Cuisine is light and exotic with an emphasis on Pacific Rim specialties, from Chilean sea bass and Thai shrimp curry to a tasty Kahlúa-barbecued pork chop. Tapas, salads and gourmet pizzas are on the menu as well. There’s maybe too much variety, but all dishes are well executed, as evidenced by the Brussels sprouts, which are slightly charred and paired with chopped bacon and grilled caper berries. Cocktails are often refreshing: think spicy mojitos and Moscow Mules. As the evening grows older, the crowd becomes younger and louder, making for a festive night if you're in the mood to party.
