Urban Cookhouse Restaurant Review:
A simple menu incorporating ingredients from local farms allows Urban Cookhouse to offer quick meals without sacrificing quality. Owners David and Andrea Snyder prepare such dishes as chipotle-braised pork, grilled chicken, smoked turkey, lime-marinated steak and wood-fired shrimp. These come as plates but also can fill sandwiches, wraps and salads alongside vegetables. With its tangy dressing, broccoli salad is a star side. Adults may be tempted by the kids’ menu, which includes a grilled peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwich. We suggest the BALT: apple wood-smoked bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato with aïoli. For dessert, get a half-baked cookie in a mini iron skillet topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, or go for a basket of Millie Ray’s addictive orange rolls. They’re available for take-home, along with other area foods and dinners for four. House-made strawberry lemonade has been made into a popular milkshake. A rotating list of organically grown wines and some local craft brews, including the Cahaba Blonde Ale, provide quaffing.
