V-Nam Cafe Restaurant Review:
If you’ve been to any of the restaurants in Michael ‘Bao’ Huynh’s small banh mi sandwich empire, this diminutive East Village restaurant might seem familiar. That’s because the owner and chef worked for Huynh and V-Nam Cafe is his attempt to branch out. The familiar yellow Café du Monde coffee cans-cum-chopstick holders are on every table. So are the banh mi sandwiches which are the same as Huynh’s. And that’s not a bad thing, especially when they’re packed with pâté and pork goodness. There’s more diversity here though: a crispy curry-flavored sun fish banh mi as well as beef and chicken round out the offerings. The menu also includes big bowls of pho, beef stew, and clay pot dishes.
